Our portfolio updates for the week ending on November 15, 2024 are as follows.
Position Cuts and Trimming
Icahn Enterprises
IEP has cut their dividend. We talked about this happening a couple months ago. It’s not the end of the world as it still yields 15%, but you never like to see a divie cut.
That being said, this is the second cut in a little over a year and that’s when I seriously consider selling, especially when the company also does something that isn’t in the shareholder’s best interest.
We’re selling all shares in the retirement account at a 20% loss and selling half of our shares in the Van Life portfolio at a 50% loss.
This was the stock that taught me the lesson of proper allocation. If our portfolio was better balanced, we shouldn’t have had such big value losses overall.
Believe it or not, but I still believe in IEP. That’ why I’m keeping some shares. But we can make a high yield elsewhere with a company that doesn’t tank their stock every quarter.
Neuberger Berman Next Gen Fund
We sold half of our NBXG position as it’s getting overvalued and only yielding 9%. We can put this money to better use somewhere else.
Plus we’re up like 50% in NBXG, so it’s time to take profits.
High Income ETF
Speaking of taking some profits… we’ve liquidated another bond fund. All of our YYY positions have been sold. Even thought this bond fund isn’t as awesome as PDI, we still made a 30% return.
Whoever said bonds have low yields isn’t doing it right. 😜
Reinvesting Our Capital
With IEP’s Proceeds
We bought more TRMD in the Retirement Portfolio and put the rest into BulletShares.
In the Van Life Portfolio, we initiated a position in SRV — a kick-ass midstream fund.
With NBXG And YYY Profits
We put all this money into new positions of PTMN, RWAY, and UPS.
I really wanted to get into these the second I saw their metrics in the top 10 list that I make each week. Fortunately, I had free cash to snatch them up before their ex-dividend dates.
